OVER FIVE HUNDRED YEARS SINCE HIS EXPLOITS FIRST APPEARED IN PRINT - ROBIN HOOD IS STILL HITTING THE HEADLINES! READ MORE

A recent analysis of the random media data collected by the World Wide Robin Hood Society relating to potential items for the News-Line feature on the organisation’s website, clearly confirms that the legendary outlaw’s global popularity is still riding high. It is 574 years since a collection of ballads about his exploits first appeared in “A Lytell Geste of Robyn Hode”, printed by Wynkyn de Worde around 1489 and across the centuries the legend has captured the public’s imagination and data collected over recent months shows that trend still continues right up to the present day.

Society Chairman, Bob White says “In February, we introduced the Robin Hood News Line as a scrolling feature across the top of our website pages and began to randomly monitor the media for suitable items to include and that’s when we realised just how frequently Robin Hood’s name appeared in the news – for all kinds of reasons and connections.

To illustrate the variety of links and associations with the legendary outlaw, here are some examples of recent media items and events etc. that have come to our attention – although we have to be selective as to what actually gets featured on the News-Line.”

Web Site developer, Corey Chamberlain, who co-ordinates the technical compilation of the News-Line, said, “We have been really surprised by the interest created in the facility and the substantial number of hits it has attracted. Many of the items have been getting between 10,000 – 20,000 hits for the duration they have been featured. Clearly it is being used on a regular basis by both the public and the media, attracting interest from all across the globe.”
